How do you deal with someone who seems to enjoy being a 'martyr'?

Your mother seems like a very caring person. It may seem wrong to you, but really she is doing the best she can to be a good person. She is probably Christian and hoping that by doing not so much for herself and putting others first she is making God happy. and to me, she is doing just that.
