Popping/crackling in my ear?

So I always pick my ear with my finger and lately I have hearing this popping/crackling sound in my right ear whenever I pick it. I try the hand-suction thing and it's just the same. It doesn't hurt but I'm afraid it'll be worse over time. Could this lead to a serious problem and should I see a specialist or my doctor?
