Is it worthwhile to stay inside while a virus is going around?

Just yesterday 6 of my friends came down with a stomach virus at the same time so something VERY contagious is going around my area. I don't have to go anywhere for at least a week, so i'm wondering if it would be worthwhile for me to avoid places like the grocery store for a week or will the virus still be rampant even a week after it's been here?
